Build up, build out
The latest work on the house shows some incredible results. In fact, much of the framing is already up and in place, allowing us to see a general outline of where everything’s going to be. I resisted the urge to hop up the stairs to the second floor and leap off into a gravel pile. Thought about it pretty strongly, though.
So, despite the state’s best efforts to keep us from moving along, it’s happening. Our newest timeline puts us in the house some time in January, which gives us a few more weeks to dread the move. Man, moving stinks.
And I have the credentials to say that. After all, I moved Jamie darn near 20 times while we were dating. Indeed, I can’t even remember what some of her apartments looked like. That probably says something about my memory, but … what was I saying?
I’ll keep everyone updated as we move along.

One slab, for here
We were just informed the other day that our house plans were approved, so the building can commence. In fact, we drove out to the lot two days later and saw that they’re already putting up the framework to pour the concrete. Make no mistake, folks, these people work quickly. All in all, we may be looking at a mid-December completion date.
We’re excited, to say the least—though that’s two less months to pack than we had counted on. Yikes. Still, it’s a quarter-year, so we probably won’t resort to another trash bag move. I’m not above that, incidentally. Stay tuned!

Tulane football set to begin; LSU cowers
Admittedly, that headline was only for my own benefit. After all, I married into a family that happens to have a few LSU fans and at least one alumnus. I’m the sole Green Waver; I felt surrounded in New Orleans, and I feel surrounded here.
But hope springs eternal, as a family member was fond of saying. All Tulane fans wish and pray for the return of the glory days—those were in the 30′s, incidentally. Actually, my senior year at Tulane was the year of the resurgence, when Tulane miraculously pulled off a 12-0 season, culminating in a thorough whipping of BYU at the Liberty Bowl. Memphis, you’re a lovely town, by the way.
Ever since then, well, it’s been business as usual. Thankfully, my Green Wave always manage to bring a big game when they play LSU, as well they should. This year, they travel to the swamp for that game, which is hardly hospitable to anyone. God bless and good luck, Tulane. A one, a two, a helluva hullabaloo! (sorry for the language, but I didn’t write the song)
